My Ride: 04 545i SMG
Hey guys, I'm having a problem. Whenever I am in first gear or in reverse and I begin pressing down on the gas, the car starts shaking back in forth. Its getting worse. Any clue what this could be? Thanks!

sounds like the clutch needs to be replaced. how many miles are on your car? many M5 owners experience the same issue when the clutch needs replacing. how are your shifts? are they sharper/tougher than normal? thats also a tale tale sign of the SMG clutch needing to be replaced. ive heard that it can cost upwards of $2000 to be replaced....and may not be covered under CPO warranty. im not trying to scare you, just want to pass along what ive learned/read here and over on M5board...
good luck man!

I recently had my SMG clutch replaced at 75,000 miles. Dealer said it was very worn. Not sure how much mileage other drivers are getting out of their SMG?

I probably don't want to know this, but would you mind posting what that cost you? Mine has only 52K miles on it, but I am guessing it may only have 5-10K left in it.

My Ride: I have a 2007 Black Sapphire BMW 530i with SMG. It has the auburn interior, has PDC, Sports Package, Premium Package, rear automatic sunshades with manual side sunshades, 35% black tint, Upgraded angeleyes from Angelibrights, and Logic 7 Sound System
Model Year: 2007
i have a 2007 530i with 54k and my clutch still seems fine. I feel a very very minor slip when starting off in 1st or 2nd in sport mode. The car was mainly highway driven but the past 2 years, I have been driving in stop and go traffic more often. Good luck with the replacement!

I have 84,000 miles. How much did it cost to get replaced? It only happens when I apply a little bit of gas. When I floor it some it doesn't happen.

just for pricing sake....i demanded that the BMW dealer put in a new SMG clutch before i bought my M5 yesterday....they ended up replacing the clutch and the flywheel....the total repair bill came to just a bit over $3800....good thing i had them do that before i bought the car! lol
the car has 44k miles on it right now....but was driving in chicago so that stop & go traffic may have been the culprit for it going sooner...
i think motorcepts has good pricing on replacement....but they are in nyc. give john a call for some ideas perhaps.

check fluid reservoir. I think it's too low miles for clutch, I had m3 with SMG, and I know those clutches do like 150,000-180,000 miles, unless car was tracking a lot.
