I have a 2006 530i without the navagation system. I was told when I bought the car that it could be retro-fitted. I have recently called a couple dealers asking them if it could be done and how much. I was told that the navagation system cannot be retrofitted into the 2006 E60.....not that I dont believe them, but can anyone confim this and tell me why?

My Ride: OLD RIDE- 2004 Titanium Silver Metallic 545I, Sports Package, 6 Speed Manual Transmission, Premium Sound, Cold Weather Package, Folding Rear Seats.
NEW RIDE- 2005 Silver Gray Metallic 545I, Sports package, 6 Speed manual Transmission, Premium Sound, Navigation, Cold Weather Package, Folding Rear Seats, Heated Rear Seats and Park Distance Control.
Can't be done. When I bought my 545i (7/2004), I was also promised a retrofit NAV when available. Turned out that without the "pre-wire option" ( option SA6?) that was offered briefly for E60s built in a 3 months period sometime in 2004, NAV retrofit cannot be done. :'(

I was told its more than just the wiring, cause there is a Nav-retrofit kit, it just costs more to install if the wiring isnt there, I beleive the code was 6UA. I was told that the retro-fit kit was good for 1005 models, but it cannot be used on 2006.

It's only retrofittable only if you have two buttons next to i-Drive knob: one is Menu and the other is voice command.
Retrofit kit costs around $1800 MSRP + few hours of labor. Two to three hours or so.
Free labor allowance from BMW for Nav Retrofit was expired sometime in May 2005.

I heard about the 2005 retro-fit, but I was told this was a 2006 issue and it just flat out wasnt retro-fittable (if there is such a word).

My Ride: 2004 545i
I use a portable Magellan Roadmate. It works as good or better than any built-in that I've seen. Has its' own hard drive, so no need for the DVD maps. Has voice prompts, different views, touch screen, and a very fast processor. Best of all, I can pull it out to use in someone elses' car or prevent theft of it. Pic is of the unit in my 325i, also works great in my 545i. Cost was $700 a year ago, likely less now. I am a Realtor, rely on it almost daily, and it is excellent. Doesn't look as clean as a built-in, but I can pull the suction cup off of the windshield when not in use.

I had nothing before (no gps).
The installed the retrofit GPS pro in the car. All works perfect. Took about 2 days to install.
Price: dont knw correctly. Still wiating for the invoice (now for 4 months)
