But I never really thought about it, what options are there for replacement paddles?

Ok, I know who HOBI is. Will the M5 paddles fuction as labeled or will they work like the 545 paddles, both push to downshift, back to upshift.

[/quote]Kris, my question would be re: operation. Do the paddles still operate the same or do they take on the M5 mode? The M5 appearance is great, but the standard E60 operating mode is what I would prefer.

I'm pretty sure that Hobi re-engineered his wiring harness to make the paddles work like they would on the M5. I'm not sure you can push those paddles, only pull them.
I'm with JDN, I like the push/pull setup on the current E60 and actually think they should standardize on that method instead of the other way...

The reason I asked for the side pictures to see if it's feasible to retrofit E60 SMG paddle on standard steering wheel. Does anyone know if it's possible?
I prefer E60 SMG paddle because you can drive with one hand once in a while. With M5 paddle, you have to drive with both hands, and it might cost more.

When I am lazy with my driving, my left hand is generally a little lower on the wheel, and the elbow on the arm rest, and the lever is not easily pushed, but could still be pulled which I prefer. I guess if the paddles extended further down to be able to push, I might like that. My right elbow is generally on the armrest also, so my hand is near the stick. Just a habit from my manual driving.
Anyway, may want to practice up so I win the lottery, I can get the M5, and won't have a learing curve.

Well, I miss the function of being able to shift up or down with only one hand. However, that is minimum to what I have now. Hobi developed a new wiring loom/harness that attaches to the paddles. They function according to the symbols. They feel so much better and you can only pull them.
As far as using both hands, correct driving requires you to use both hands. They are placed perfectly and the feel of the back of them is great. If you are in an area that gets pretty cold in winter you will appreciate the feel of the new paddles. Plus, if you have been driving for a little bit the LED's warm up the pad in the back and warms your finger tips.
