48 hours after picking up a 545i with all the goodies, smg transmission locks up solid and car had to be towed. Anybody had any lockup problems? This is not a confidence builder for a man on his 3rd bimmer and they have all been sticks.
on aposative note, the emergency satellite system( onstar knock off) worked perfectly.

Sorry to read about this. I have never heard of this before. Been driving my SMG since June 12 and it is working good.
Hope nothing was damaged. Other people with SMG enjoy it so hopefully after it is fixed you can really enjoy the qualities of it.

well, i have had no experience with onstar, but BMW assist was fast, within 60 seconds, my display lit up immediately with my global position and a rep from bmw came on the line. i was asked if i needed police assistance, and then put through to tow service. very efficient.

4500 miles with SMG and no problems so far . Hope yours is an easy fix. I went to SMG from manual and like it a lot. I think you will enjoy it once it is fixed. Glad to hear that BMW assist worked well.

This is the first SMG problem I've heard.

I have about 5500 miles on mine and, after the break-in period, have driven it pretty hard doing some high rpm up and down shifts.

The thing has worked flawlessly so far...

There is really not that much to using the paddles. You can click them slow, fast, in rapid succession, or not at all. This sounds like a true malfunction of the system. Hydraulic pressure has to be present for the system to function. On SMG, you can hear the pressure build when you open the door. It would be interesting to know what the dealer found.
