SMG on e60
Hey guys, I was wondering if SMG on e60 is like the M5's where you can never be in automatic mode where you still have to hit the shifter up to shift or is it like a regular automatic and if you want to use the paddles you can.
Is it a rougher tranny in terms of when it goes into another gear? I was in one where when you were braking you could feel the tranny going from gear 4 to 3 to 2 etc in automatic or it isn't any different?

Your original question seems to come from multiple directions at once...
To be honest, I've read it multiple times and can't quite figure out what you're asking.

this is why they invented punctuation
I dont have any experience with SMG models, but my guess is, that an "normal' automatic is different from the SMG.
The normal auto tranny is just that, and when you put it in sequential mode you basically are just fooling yourself, because it is still an auto...
I believe the SMG resembles a stick because it actually engages a clutch, but this is done true a "robot"...I'm not that technical in English, so please feel free to shoot down the above if not correct

SMG does have auto mode.
Remember SMG is truly a manual in its mechanics. So it drives/shifts like a manual. Auto mode is not going to be buttery smooth or anything. No reason to really buy SMG if your going to be driving it in auto mode even more then 20% of the time.
It does take a couple weeks to get SMG driving style down.
