Well the M-powered cars have a better SMG than the ordinary cars, faster and more sharper. Also you could set it up. In the ordinary cars i.e. 520i-550i it was pretty basic. SMG was stopped for the ordinary cars when LCI came out but is still in production for the M5/M6. Now in the new M3 we have DCT instead of SMG. DCT as in double clutch transmition.

I love SMG but..... If other people drive your car, its a total nightmare because most people have don't know how to drive with it (not there fault but it takes some getting used to). Not only freinds, relatives, etc, but valets and car washes that don't see SMG even have problems just starting it up.

True.. I always explain how to do. First time I left someone to park it he believed it is an auto and was like "yea yea yea I know how to do it" and then when I came back I found the car at neutral. Since then I always explain

I love the SMG as well. It was a 'must have' for me while I was shopping for my car. My car guy was searching dealer auctions all over the nation and kept telling me that all the 545/550's were overpriced. After we spent about two months looking, he finally realized that it wasn't just a gimmick. SMGs actually add value to the resale of our cars...
