Don't forget that Steptronic users would also benefit from the option of displaying the current gear in the HUD. Because of this, I'm optimistic that someday BMW will offer it with a software upgrade. If it doesn't happen through software, I'll bet it'll be added to future cars...

I thought that too but the "next to the gauges" statement kind of led me to believe he was asking about the instrument cluster, not the HUD.

As you know, SMG gear indicator in the HUD is one of the highest things on my wish list (but underneath Sirius with Nav!)

I thought he means the HUD because of the speed statement.

Huh only the speed? I didnt know the E60 has a digital read out of the speed on the dash...

AND YES it does display what gear you are in, in between the speedo & tach on the dash.

That's why I thought he is talking about the HUD.

I would love to have that too, on my steptronic. As well as paddles, for the steptronic. Anyways, I don't think BMW will make that available. Gear indicator and RPM display will probably be for Emmys only. I do hope it will come sooner or later to all E60's, but I doubt it.

I have gotten to where I associate software update with really bad experiences. I had the perfect E60 for six months before I got involved with the first update.

JDN, I hate to say it but you need a new dealer. My dealer has updated my software with absolutely no issues. I think they have one guy who specializes in software upgrades (as they probably should).

No question about that. They obviously put in a CCC wo matching the specs on my car or I would have NAV in HUD now and a PDC screen. The SA and the mechanic are a farce when it comes to the electronics and not that sharp on obvious noises - think AC bearing type sounds. However, I am going to ride it out for curiosity's sake as much as anything else and see what BMW NA comes up with. They cannot play dodge ball with these issues as they have with some others in this forum.
