Agree... I upgraded mine to zimmerman cross drilled and slotted. Although both are overkill and in fact if you are driving it really hard, just go with slotted. Upgraded pads help for sure, but be careful if you get full ceramic the first few stops when the pads are cold are horrible.. otherwise then it's good. M5 brakes for sure if you're going all the way, I saw someone selling a set that was decently priced a little while ago on here.
I love the bling, and I daily drive it only, so for looks it's awesome.. stopping power is actually slightly better than the stock setup. Again.. slightly better only. Brake fade will be decreased for sure.

I am not a fan of HPS pads. I've used them in a few cars with mixed results.
I'd try cool carbon pads. They dust low and have excellent low temp bite and work even better when hot.

I've been looking for a supplier for the Zimmerman crossed drilled rotors.
Drilled Front part # 150.3434.52
Drilled Rear part # 150.3461.52
Where did you order yours from?

Ooops, sorry I didn't see this question until today while browsing.. I talked to my friend at DRT-Sport.. he can order them and machine them to the spec I want.
However.. I just got some callahan rotors for some of my other cars ... and they were cheaper, and so far the zinc coating is holding up better than the zimmermans! I would consider going with them for sure on my E60 if I had to go back.. but.. I'm like easily 20k+ miles on the same setup I put in and there is no sign of them wearing down.. no cracks etc. Honestly I have only managed to crack cross drilled slotted rotors on my race car back in the day, and that was a wilwood big brake setup. For daily I wouldn't think it's possible for me to beat any rotor that hard.

I just upgraded to R1 rotors cross drilled and slotted with hawk HPS pads.
Couldn't be happier! Previously had stock rotors with axis ultimate pads.
Better bite cold or hot with minimal dust.
Can't go wrong with the look either. And the rotors come in 3 colors! Black, silver, or gold. I got the black

I have 6k miles on the Cool Carbon ST PLUS pads and can tell you:
1. they are as dusty as OE (I can drive at most 3 days before rims are filthy)
2. the feel is dramatically better than OE. It has a linear grip which remains consistent from light/cold to severe conditions (the OE pads, IMO, provide an obnoxious bite at slow speed yet dont provide power at high speeds. The worst of both worlds, really)
3. after ~5500 miles, one or more of the rear pads is slightly squeaking. They were super silent for the first 5k miles or so. I did add them without resurfacing/replacing rotors though. I cleaned and lubed the guide pins extensively
4. overall stopping power is better than OE
5. if I could do it again, i'd go with porterfield street pads due to previous success on other cars. My fav compound so far and ive used HAWK, akebono Euro, raybestos
Cool Carbon ST / PLUS
Front: D918-7799 PLUS
Rear: 7820-D919 ST
One other bit: Ive noticed that only the genuine BMW rotors have an aluminum hat. Everything aftermarket is one piece steel. I assume BMW chose to take the more expensive route for bearing cooling and weight reduction so that's what Ill recommend. Ive used slotted/dimpled/drilled rotors on other cars and see no benefit with modern pads that dont off gas
