Does not compute
part prices are likely much higher than what is available through mailorder. I'm guessing they're charging the typical dealer rate of $130ish per hour.

Estimate was revised:
$1300 total (parts + 5hr labor)

I literally changed the solenoids, pan/filter and oil on the GROUND in my parents carport (on the floor) in 2 or 3 hours.

I know they have to make money, but I still can't fathom paying that for this service. It just isn't that hard.

I really wish people would post these types of threads that live near me--I'd do it for half price and be happy to do it

Thanks for the info. I'm going to discuss the cost with them.

Apparently there was a leak with the fluid. Symptom was only hard shift from 3rd to 2nd.

I know it's difficult to tell until it's been changed but I hope there's no damage to the transmission

Highly doubt any damage

if that doesn't, replacing solenoids should take care of it. At absolute worst, a rebuild mechatronics unit surely will (thectsc.com has both)

Fluid change with pan & sleeve replacement didn't fix the problem.

It has a slam down shifting into 2nd.

Tech advises to drive it for awhile to see if it clears the problem (sludge).

What do you think?

Also, before any service, these were the symptoms:

1) Slam only when downshifting into 3rd using ***steptronic
2) When the slam downshifting into 2nd (steptronic & automatic) appeared, the 3rd gear issue went away.

The tech stated that sludge may be moving around to cause these changes.

You sure it's transmission related and not the driveshaft guibo?
