I do like the 'Industrial' look of this e60... kind of reminds me of mine when it's dirty... nice setting beside the wall, can you imagine this car photographed at an old powerstation or something similar... one word 'awesome'.

Hey guys, been on a long trip and out of touch so I know this post is dated. But, anyway, am I not seeing this correctly, or does that car have a chrome license plate frame? If so, how off-theme is that?

Shrug - don't know about being thematically correct, but it certainly isn't a problem from an aesthetic standpoint. You see jewelry that mixes polished bits with black anodized titanium, etc... David Yurman makes some men's jewelry with matte black titanium and polished silver and gold in the mix.

I like the car, and the black primer look in general - although in this case the paint is much more than just primer.

Just seemed odd to me after going to such great lengths to create the stealth bomber look to have something shiny on the back. I'm not sure how relevant a David Yurman reference is to my point about theme. While I appreciate his jewelry and watch designs, the mixed materials obviously is his intent. If your intent on a car is to go with a matte black theme, it seems stange to put anything other than a matte black license frame on the car. Or maybe it's sort of brushed like the spokes of the wheels. Like I said, it's hard to tell.

I'm a fan of Mark Nason shoes/boots with all the mixed types of distressed leather, canvas, etc., but I certainly wouldn't want that particular style on my car's interior, as it would not go with my car's overall theme: non-modded/sedate. I guess that's not really relevant either, is it?

Apropos your comments about relevance... I seem to recall qualifying my statements in such a way as to make them about aesthetics.

"Shrug - don't know about being thematically correct, but it certainly isn't a problem from an aesthetic standpoint."

While neither of us can get inside the owner's head, it's pretty safe to say that he made these choices because he liked the way it made the car look.

Oh dude!!!!! You just hit the nail on the head.
Thats exactly what this is. It's Jewelry.
David Yurman is the perfect parallel too. Between the paint job and the rims I see the guy driving this car as wearing $600 jeans and and a black shirt open half way down with David Yurman cufflinks and a bit too much after shave.
Its all very Miami Beach.
