sideview mirror theft

So some jackass decided to steal the backcover off my pass.sideview mirror.wtf!!! Firstly why didn't my alarm go off, and how fast would it take to remove that in public, and how much do they cost to replace?

did you check it for any kind of damage? I find it really hard to believe that someone was like "oh look i'm going to steal the back cover off of his mirror". If they "pop right out" it couldve been hit and knocked off?

They don't come off that easily but I think you can just pry them off.
I thought someone stole my passenger cover once and then noticed the cover about 20 feet away from my car with a small crack on the bottom. It looked like they kneed it from the bottom up since they actually bent the metal bracket up a little bit. All I know is that it must of hurt big time unless they used a steel toed boot.

Watch out for another e60 of the same color. I read about a confession by a guy in a local newspaper a few years ago who basically broke his mirror cover, the stealer quoted him a few hundred bucks (with painting etc), and he just coulnd't control his temptation to steal one from another car. Might have been a cooked up story, but its plausible.
