Thumbs up

Hi, all!

Can somebody with access to SIB details send me SIB 11 09 05 (Non-return Valve Parts Found In Oil Filter During Engine Oil Service). I was changing oil yesterday on my wifes X5 (engine N62 same as on my 545) and two parts fell out of the oil filter housing. Called mechanic and he said he has seen that happening and car is drivable. I would like to know what exactly BMW recommends to do in this case. Thanks in advance

You're welcome. How big are those parts actually? I assume they fit through the oil drain plug right for you to see them...

they come out of the oil filter housing, not the oil drain plug. And actually parts are pretty big. I found only parts #3 and #4, and part #4 is about 1" tall and about 1/2" in diameter. I am debating if whether I want to replace oil pump which is about $680 for just a part excluding all required gaskets plus 11 hours labor since both bottom and top oil pans need to come off including subframe. I most likely follow advise of independent BMW certified mechanic and do nothing since its not a life/death situation and only minor oil starvation in the passages when engine initially started (for the very first second until oil pressure builds up and start flowing). So, all N62 engine owners - beware!
