I don't have them. Delivery was a German spec. I noticed that they are there on my X5 3.0i. I thought they were a 4x4 thing until you mentioned you have them on your E60.

it has nothing to do with diesel engine.... I have it on my 530i as well.
It helps to warm up the engine... if the engine is warm enough they open as needed and regulate air flow inside....
it is more of US vs. Euro spec car
it comes even on European 545i....... as well all know US spec cars have generaly few cost saving things.... several covers and plastics missing around the engine........ sligthly detuned engine..... etc etc..... sorry guys

My 2006 550i dopesn;t have these shutters fitted for Australia.

We are not expecting much snow this year in Sydney - so I suspect it has something to do with cold weather not hot (some posters thought it had to do with engine/oil cooling and if that was true we'd need it), and freezing conditions affecting warming uptimes.

No shutters on my 2006 550i in sunny and dry SoCal. I have Cold Weather Package, too. Anything below about 52 F is cold for me.

If it's a regional thing, I would expect that Canadian cars should get them? I don't have it.
