I have been using an E60 N52B30 year 2005 for more than five years and two months. Now, there are only three indicators of engine oil level showed on the iDrive from the actual five indicators.

From what I know, we will not fill the full engine oil which is about 7 litres. And one litre is used to measure whether we have to fill in an additional engine oil. Thus, in my case, since there are two missing indicators, should I top up the engine oil? Or should I leave it until the indicator lower to be only one left? Or should I leave it until it is the time to change the new engine oil if the iDrive still shows three indicators when the engine oil is due. The iDrive informs that it is about 12,000 kilometres to go before the due date of engine oil.

Thank you all your comments.

if you are missing the top 2 blocks but the i-drive screen still says "oil level ok"...you are only approx 1/2 quart low on oil. nothing to trigger the "low oil light" but you can safely add 1/2 quart for peace of mind if you'd like!

Sorry to stray OT but does anyone elses not have this function?

Within my I drive it just gives me the oil change countdown rather than a level indicator.

Yes neil.d, every E60 as an oil level indicator in the i-drive, there are no oil level dip-sticks on the engine. When you go into the service menu in the i-drive, it's one push to the right and you have the oil level indicator.

My work 2008 530d has a dipstick and an I drive indicator.

My 535d only has a dipstick. Weird.

It's a model year thing.
