When I shift from R to D and vice versa the car makes a groaning sound like the boy from the movie "The Grudge". This only happens though when I put my foot lightly on the brake. When I push the brake all the way down the sound disappears. Is this a sign that I need to replace my brake pads?

Thank you

This may be the passenger side rear view mirror tilting down, then up, as one shifts from P or D to R then back from R to D. Look over thru your passenger side window to see if the mirror is doing this....this is normal unless you can remove it thru I-drive. Its designed as a safety factor to let you see obstacles better when you back up. Of course, I could be wrong, and your problem may have to be checked by a SA.

I think its normal, when the transmission is engaging the gear and you have your foot LIGHTLY pressed on the brakes, the brakes will slip and squeal (groan).

Yea, it only happened once though. I noticed it yesterday so I took her out for a spin to get everything warmed up. I stopped back at my house and the groan was still there. A few hours later I drove the car again and the groan was gone.
