There have been some absolutely demolished cars on here that were not declared totaled. That said, IIRC, they were newer cars, so the value was higher, thus a higher threshold. However, I doubt the damage is severe enough either way.

So on to plan B now. Finding a competent shop to put her back together....
Yes that is a good plan. Totalling probably will not work with that amount of damage.

From the looks of the picture, I highly doubt there is severe frame damage, or minor frame damage at that. If we all claimed these to be totalled/frame damaged, everyone in america would have a new car... and as much as I want to be optimistic for you in this case...it's just not going to happen.

A BMW would never make such a fragile frame that would crease in times of a rear end collision.
+1 If that trunk was crumbled or pushed in, then maybe you can say there is frame damage. Repair is your only option. Like someone has said, upgrade the bumper to m-tech or something not stock. GL with your decision.

Not u too :-( I was rear-ended last Friday. Still trying to get ahold of the person's insurance since it was clearly their fault. Did u get checked up for any whiplash injuries?

Maybe u can get some new LCI tail lights and mtech rear bumper. Good luck!

I seriously doubt they would total that. It looks like a competent shop should make it new again. All E60s are worth saving...... G/L

I agree !! There is not enough damage to the car to warrant a total.. Good Luck with your repairs and keep us updated with any changes you make!!!

Theres not much damage there assuming the frame is OK. No way it will be totaled.
+1 If the frame is straight, it's just cosmetic.

Thanks for the all the input. The insurance actually got back to me and they are going to total the car. The damage was right at the threshold (67%). The pictures doesn't show but there was quite some damage to the right frame rail. The initial estimate came out to close to 15k, being a MY04 its book value is prob 22-23k without options. Thanks for the kind words and inputs. I'll keep everyone updated with whats going on.
