My Ride: 545i - ordered in January delivered April 21st! Black Sapphire Metallic, Black Dakota Leather, Anthracite Maple.
Default

Brought my 545 in today for service - the iDrive has a mind of its own. But anyway....

They gave me an X3 3.0 and WOW, geeze do I miss torque and active steering. 1 full turn to make a 90 degree corner?. Peddle all the way down and not until 3k does the car begin to move.
10 minutes in that car and I miss my 545 more than ever... maybe thats the plan.
I am glad the dealership gave me a BMW but what a change!!

I went through the same thing with a 525
loaner and what a job to turn that wheel - almost clip another car when leaving
the dealership.
I just don't understand how people on this board have a problem
with active steering? Much more precise and safer too!

be careful what you say... some people will yell at you for not knowing how to drive... Either that or argue that you just "gotten use to" AS.

I test drove a 545i with a/s and I really didn't like it. Sure there's less effort in turning the wheel, but when it turns more than you expect it to, imagine parallel parking and curbing a rim. Wonderful system, regardless, but not for me. I placed an order for a 550i without a/s. To each his/her own...

Just give it time getting used to. Dont judge it from just a test drive. You need to get the hang of it first. It might take a whole day. But once you dial-in yourself to the Active Steering Control, you'll be amazed by it. It's more advanced driving. Once you're honed, going back is like going to bi-planes from an F-15 fighter jet. Taking hard turns with A/S feels good. My friend also didn't feel comfortable driving my car at first. But after driving it all night (cuz I was to drunk to drive ) he got the hang of it, and now he loves it, and wish he had it for his older E39 car. Do it while it's not too late. lol
