I just acquired a 2007 530xi from a private owner. Everything is in perfect working order except that intermittantly, the chime goes off indicating that the passenger seat belt is unfastened, even though no one is sitting in the seat. I have an appointment with the dealer to have it looked at on Tuesday, but wanted to pose the question here to anyone who might have already experienced this as to what the cause might be. I?m hoping it?s something that can simply be replaced without a lengthy diagnosis being required.

I believe there is a sensor that tells the car when someone is sitting there or not... Not sure what you could do to fix that although someone here may know of a reset.
I know you live near me and for the record I used BMW North Haven and they were great. Get a loaner and make your life easier.

Hi Jaycal! You're in Shelton, right? We were going to get together now that I actually have the car. I sent you a private message last week.
Will BMW-NH give you a loaner with any service? Did you buy the car there? I don't think the Bpt dealer will do that unless you bought from them, which I didn't.

You got it! And congrats on the pick up! I did not buy the car there or from a BMW dealer... Yes North Haven will give a loaner for any service at no charge. All you have to do is tell them after they assign you a service advisor that you need one and they will take your license, insurance card and a credit card (just in case). I didnt hear good things about the other dealer you mentioned... but BMW NH had my car for 3 days and I had the loaner all 3 days and every time i was told they would call they did. I was surprised. Even more surprising was that during the Aux Input install they discovered my Wiper Sensor was faulty as well and the car wouldnt hold the programming as a result... they replaced that for free - my car is not under warranty and again was not purchased from them... good deal

That's good to know. Since North Haven is a haul for me, I'll give BMWB a chance to shine. I also have a BMW mechanic that has his own shop that I've used to service my E39 for the 9 years that I owned it. He does good work and only charges 60% of what the dealers do. No loaner cars though.
