this is a newbie question, i come from the series but how much lower the the car sit with sports suspension vs non sport????
i have the non sport and if i get larger oem wheels my car i feel may sit higher???
The sport is 2,5 cm (about an inch) lower than the standard suspension.

As long as you go with OEM wheels and tires (245/40 18" or 245/35 - 275/30 19")
the car rides as high as the standard.

Here's a pic of mine with the standard suspension (UK SE) and 19" wheels.

No SE models in Germany, nor elsewhere in the continental Europe nor Scandinavia nor NA, SA,
nor Russia, China and India.

Australia maybe?
are you sure about this?
i ask because if you go onto ebay.de (germany) there are hundreds of se parts for sale...bumpers etc and se cars...where have all these come from then?

that photo of your car is an SE....what do you call it?

Ricracing is right, the SE is a UK concept. In Germany they have the 5er Limousine, that's all. Then you choose an "edition", either Lifestyle, Exclusive or Sport.

No SE.

In general, from what I can see, in most markets there is a base level 5 series, and the M Sport is an extra-cost package. In the UK the marketing people have positioned the standard car with the M Sport package as a variant in its own right. My local dealer told me that 70% or more of the E60s they sell are Sport variants, which surprises her because almost all of the buyers do the vast majority of their driving in towns/cities or motorways, where the suspension of the SE provides a better ride and the Sport suspension's better handling has no benefit. I certainly found the Sport suspension on my first E60 too hard for London roads.

thanks JMC, that was very helpfull, and i understand fully now.
just a bit confused as to why the guys on ebay germany advertise there parts etc as for an SE? when they dont have that designation

what does SE stand for? (standard equptment?)
my log book for my 530 (2004) shows SE, but the log book for my 535D (2005) shows nothing? and that is an M tech sport.
(just shows BMW 535 D AUTO HEAVY OIL)

From where I come, 523i's come in 2 models. One's the 523i and 523i SE. 525i is only available in the M-Sport version, 530i and 540i Individual. All equipments are fixed and we do not get to choose any options. Adaptive Xenons, Comfort Access and Navigation Pro with Bluetooth phone preparation are standard on the 523i SE onwards while the 523i, only comes with the normal Xenons, no Navigation Pro but with Bluetooth phone preparation.

your right...it does not matter what the "badge" says, it depends on the spec the car has, im sure there are a lot of SE/limo/individual cars out there that are better specced than an Msport etc.
for example my 530d (2004) says SE in the log book, but has
sports suspension
pro nav
20 way heated seats
SMG paddle shift
aero M sport package (bumpers etc)

so what is that now?

Of course the Germans call it the SE-model when they are selling

The pic of my car is a 520dA, it's called a 520dA (A=automatic transmission) with a lot of extras

At the Nordic countries (and German) markets we now have four special E60 models for sale:

M Sport
Exclusive Edition
Lifestyle Edition
Sport Edition
BMW Individual Composition

Plus three other packages:
Advantage, Comfort and BMW Individual Composition

BMW Nordic is fully owned by BMW Ag, so what they do in Germany we also get.
