Does anyone have experience and/or recommendation on how to remove or touch up scratches on the plastic bumper cover just behind the trunk (black in this case)?

paint but finding a good bodyshop is another story. you can check with your dealer for touch up paint repair they should have them for any bmw.
Joe540 you should always park the car at lease 200ft away from other cars

its a pain in the ass but save big on bodyshop repair and you get more exercise
happened to my rear bumper, running into another car, the scratches are visible. i took it to a highly reputable body shop, they worked on the bumper for 2 days, the results were excellent, i cannot tell the difference.
find a good professional body shop and get it done. good luck.

Actually I'm looking for something like this as well - not a body shop visit, but a buffing compound or something that will remove a dull spot on the plastic front bumper. Maybe a compound that requires some rubbing? Wax doesn't do it.
AFAIK the right way is to repaint the bumper, which will be worth the couple of hundred of dollars it cost.
the only effective buffing compound is kruba wax, but you have to apply a number of layers. if that does not work ,it will be a tri pto the body shop.
knowing how we all feel about our e60, its worth the while to bite the bullet shall we say?

I've had good luck using the "wet sand 2000" kit from Langka. I was nervous using the wet sanding at first, but now after I see the results, I have no worries using it. All you do is VERY lightly wet sand the spot using the 2000 grit sand paper and hand buff using the compounds provided. You may get really nervous after you see what happens from just the wet sanding, but relax, it all buffs out fine. You can find it on www.Langka.com
I have not had good luck using their paint ship repair kit though.

Thanks E60 COYOTE, I'll look into the Langka solution. These are relatively light scratches from taking my golf clubs bag out of the trunk. This is probably a better solution than the bumper sticker suggestion.
Try this plastic polish. It works great for taking scratches out of plastics, including clear lenses. It comes in 3 degrees of abrasiveness.
Removes fine scratches, haziness and abrasions from most plastics. With repeated use, NOVUS No. 2 restores faded and discolored plastics.
