I had the unfortunate experience last Friday afternoon of having to drive over debris on the road that turned out to be sheet metal screws. I had a car on either side of me and a car on my tail at speed when I observed a broken bag on the road directly in front of me in my lane. It turns out that the bag likely fell out of the back of a contractor's truck. Unfortunately, given the traffic situation, I had no choice but to drive over the mess.

Final result, about 20 screws in three of my four tires. The two fronts are done (not repairable) and the rear had the screws removed without leakage.

I had bought tire insurance from my dealer last fall on thier advice as it cost less than one tire replacement. Cost me about $400 CDN. Cost to replace the tires at the dealer, about $650 CDN per corner.

Advice to all others with runflats, tire insurance is cheap. If it is not available in your area, PM me and I will get you some details where you can purchase it. The policy even will pay for a rim if it is damaged as part of a flat tire event to a maximum policy limit of about $4000 IIRC.

I agree. Eventhough, tire insurance on RFTs seem redundant and sounds like snakeoil, there are legitmate times it will definitely pay off. When I had my RFTs I got a nail in my sidewall. Needed a new tire b/c cannot patch/plug sidewall.

Hey I wasnt offer any tire insurance by the dealer. I'll gladly buy it at $400... ESPECIALLY when the tires themselves cost almost that much. Theres waaay too much junk on the road now a days. I've gotten 3 nails within 4 months before... not on the E60 luckly...
