BTW, I still prefer the Audi system, which has icons on the map. More useful I think.

Not all companies pay to be on the database. I know of many who are on there but never paid a dime.
Clearly, the database isn't 100% accurate but then again, how could it possibly be?
Just remember, the data comes from NavTeq so you can't blame BMW for this one...

you can use BMW Assist, if you find out the dataset isn't accurate enough.
Over here in Germany they will even send me the nav data to my car and I can set it as destination just by clicking on it.

Yes, but who has the phone. If only it wasn't so expensive. BMW Assist would be good then.

What company does the Nav in the BMW?
Acura has Alpine Navigation (with NavTech DVD), which is why their's is so good.
An annoying thing I found on the BMW Navigation is that the smallest increment of distance the voice guidance will give you is 1/4 mile. So even if the next turn is only a few hundred feet away, it still says to turn in a 1/4 mile.
On the Alpine Nav I had in my old car, it would tell you in feet how far to the next turn, if it was less than a 1/4 mile. It also had a secondary screen with a diagram of the intersection... especially helpful when on multi-way interchanges on highways. You could see a simplified picture of the interchange, instead of looking at the map. Pretty cool.

I was told the 2005 Nav DVD wasn't avaliable. Does anyone have the part number. I want to go to my salesman with it.

I can't say if BMW's system is Alpine or someone else but to me, it seems you might need to play a bit more before assuming it doesn't do what you want...
