Satellite radio tuner replacement help?
Looks like the tuner on my 2008 535xi just went bad. On the drive entertainment screen i dont even see the satellite" option (just AM FM WB CD)
Dealer wants $1400 to replace but I see various models on ebay
my question is
"do I have to find the exact model (65.12 -9142852-03 AI:03 gen 2.5) or can I buy one that is close?"
Also if the answer is I can buy one close, does it have to be coded or is plug and play?
Thank you!

plug and play, no coding required. the only coding that's required has already been done for you if you've had SIRIUS working previously.
are you sure it isn't the antenna? the modules can be found on ebay fairly cheap (100ish), and again they are plug and play.
good luck, hit 'em with the Hein.

Thanks - another question(s)
I thought about the antenna but don't know how to test it or if the wiring is good.
Any help here?
Also do I have to buy the exact model number or just make sure I get say "a gen 2.5" like my current one?
5'Thanks again!

When I put SAT in my car I went to realoem.com and confirmed the correct part number for my VIN. I then went on ebay and found the correct module with the proper BMW part number. I honestly do not know if a module with a different BMW part number will work, but unless you can confirm it I'd just find one with the identical part number.

You might try going to: realoem.com Enter your vin number and drive down to your SAT. There you will find the, as built, part number for your SAT and the subsequent superseded BMW part numbers. Any of those part numbers will work on your vehicle.
