Morning all

I have a E60 525d SE 2005 UK registered with professional navigation system (ie with map) package fitted which up until yesterday has worked flawlessly.

It now seems to have lost the ability to identify its current position whilst the car is in motion. When the car is stationary it is spot on but as soon as the car in motion it becomes confused and shows my location randomly up to two miles away. Apart from this system seems to be operating normally ie map is still displayed etc just that my location is way out.

Any thoughts apart from an expensive visit to my local BMW main dealer at ?135 per hour?

Cheers

Alan

Have you tried re-booting the nav system yet? Hold down the two eject buttons (the one for the CD changer and the one for the satnav DVD) and the volume button at the same time (ala Ctrl+Alt+Delete). May resolve the problem.

i posted something lik ethis yesterday in answer to a reply mine did exactly the same I swapped my CCC with jags545i and it worked so i thought mmm that stange must be my CCC, then all of a suddent it started working, on the back of the CCC there is some kind of GPS module which you can buy seperate, id didnt use mine so if you need that I have one that you can buy, tyr the reboot as suggested aand see if that makes any differance.

Thanks for all the suggestions - no snow here presently

Forgive my ignorance but what is a "CCC"?

So far I have tried rebooting the iDrive as suggested above and and swapping out the Sat Nav DVD with an earlier version (the system recognises this is a different DVD - message "switch system off and leave for 15 minutes" but problem remains.

Within 15 seconds of stopping car it updates position accurately - problem seems to relate to it updating position whilst in motion.

Any further suggestions welcome

Cheers

Alan

Sounds like a broken GPS antenna, which is located in your sharkfin. Every GPS antenne is essentially a big metal plate (yes, it has electronics ).
When it snows or rains and your sharkfin isn't completely waterproof it'll rust and be less accurate. When a GPS antenna is less accurate it has problems tracking the satelites while in motion, hence your problem.

Replacing the sharkfin should fix your problem. (Make sure it's waterproof this time!)

Hi

Is this a DIY job or one for the experts (checking Shark Fin and CCC)?

Are there any instructions on the web that I might follow?

Cheers

It's very weird but following a trip up North (well 80 mile around trip) my Sat Nav has started working normally again.
I have no absolutely no idea why - fingers crossed it stays "fixed"

Thanks to all for your suggestions and helpful advice.
