Tough luck, Joe. I used to always hide the V1 because that is real bait, just like the cell. Since it is now hardwired and tucked away, I take chances and hope it won't be seen casually. But, right now as I type, the V! is sitting in the motel parking lot and I am going and retrieve it before something bad happens.
Sorry about the big bill and hope the repairs are up to standard.?

Joe;I am sorry to hear that there are more bastards like the ones who just messed up my car.
About two and a half weeks ago I found a bunch of keymarks on the passenger side door of my 323Ci. I had not looked at that side very much that week & had been to Great Adventure the previous weekend, so I chalked it up to some little juvenille delinquents in the GA parking lot.
Then late last week I returned to my car in the parking deck here at work & found MORE keymarks...this time on the driver's door. As it turns out, someone was upset about where I was parking (as if they owned the deck) and security told me that my car was parked just out of sight of the cameras.
I too, have a $1000 comprehensive deductible, so I feel your pain. Been parking there for over 5 years, never one problem;;suffice to say, I won't be parking there anymore.
Good luck,
R.R.

Sorry to hear about the damage.? I live in Oak Park, a suburb of Chicago.? Twice my cars in my garage were broken into when I left my cell phone on the seat overnight.? The third time it happened at an elementary school.? I am an architect.? I was at a job site in Chicago at Corkery Elementary School.? During recess a 3rd grader broke a window in my Saab 9000 trying to steal my phone.? The other kids just watched him.? So I go about my business on the job site.? 30 minutes later the principal said that he found the culprit and that he wanted to apologize.? The kid apologizes to me.? The principal asks if that was acceptable.? In front of the kid, I said no that wouldn't work.? I needed his dad's phone number so I could get reimbursed.? The kid starts crying hysterically saying that his dad would beat him if he found out.? Too bad.? I called his dad that night.? I was glad that his dad still believed in corporal punishment.

sorry to hear that, joe540 :'(. i feel your pain :'(. i'll never leave anything inside the car. few months ago one of my dad's cars got stolen and we were expecting the worst since that car only has liability insurance coverage. about three days later the cop recovered the car and you know who called the police? the mom of the guy who stole the car
! the mom was wondering why there is another car park in front of their house and called the cops
. damaged driver's side door lock, steering wheel, and everything inside the car was gone. when my dad picked up the car he said the car was so clean in and out
. i think that guy didn't want to leave any fingerprints or he was enjoying the new ride
. anyway, there was nothing in the car at that moment but many things inside the trunk, probably over $5k :'(.

Joe: I live in Villa Park. Where was your car parked when this happened? I do my best to park my 530 in a very well lit area if at all possible, and so far, I've had no problems with vandals or break ins. (Knock Wood!)
You may want to consider reducing your deductible on the comprehensive part of your auto policy, but not the collision. The bulk of insurance cost in Ill is in the collision portion, wheras vandalism is covered under comp which is cheaper coverage.
Good Luck. Glad you're safe.
