Hi, I know there is some articles relating to RFT already, I just need to some clarification, I asked my dealer where I have just bought my 530d M Sport can I change the RFTs to conventional tyres (the RFTs are the ones that come part of the M Sport range - UK).

My dealer advises me that no the wheel rim is different is this true? Also, how is the tyre pressure measured and does the change to conventional tyres invalidate the warranty ?

You've gotta love dealers!

You can change from RF's to conventional tyres no problems. The rim difference is referring to the additional hump on the rim FOR RF's, i.e. you can always go away from RF's but not necessarily the other way...

Until recently the Tyre Pressure was calculated by the ABS sensors and comparative rotational speeds. Newer models have special senders on the valve stem. But just changing tyres affects neither of these systems...

The warranty issue is debatable, but if your engine blows it's hardly down to the tyres is it? However, remember that BMW do ship E60's without runflats....... Very few dealers will recommend against the company 'policy' but mine was more than happy to assist!
