I know there has been a lot of debate about how amazingly crap the Dunlop SP 01's fitted to some of the E60's are so I thought I would look into putting normal tyres on.

Aside from the fact they are slowly shaking the car to bits and they smash into every little bump like it's driving over piles of bricks they cost a small fortune here (around ?250 each) and don't last long at all.

Has anyone put normal tyres on wheels that came with run flats? Are there any cons apart from the obvious?

I've got a space saver wheel from another car so that's that sorted. They are 18in style 124s

I swapped the Dunlops for PS2's and am very happy. The car feels like it was designed for these Michelins, where the runflats were very harsh and noisy, especially the fronts under braking.

The family noticed the difference straight away.

Won't go back to runflats now.

I just purchased Bridgestone RE760 Sports, having them installed tomorrow morning. I choose Non RFT for the same reason you stated. Can see spending double the cost for a tire that performs worse overall.

I swapped runflats for Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3. Fantastic. MUCH less noise, ride is better.

BUT, they are more sensitive to pressure changes - I can certainly tell when I need to top up the pressures in them - the car gets more "floaty".

I paid just over ?130/corner for them from etyres.com, compared to over 180 for runflats, on 245/40/18.

I would definitely recommend doing it. But don't get your dealer to do it. They will try and tell you it can't be done - the rims are special, blah blah. Pure bollox.

Thanks guys. I'm definitely going to do it now. I have an M Sport with 19s that is on Continentals and they are brilliant so maybe I'll go for them. Just had a new d's rear which is a bit annoying, the old one disintergrated after 6k.

My dealer said it can not and should not be done but at the end of the day they're normal wheels same as every other wheel.

Most say the Michelin PS2's are the best tires for a E60, they last also longer than other tires according to tests.

Anyone have any experience with BFGoodrich - g-Force? Sport? It is selling for $175USD plus tax installed at Costco. It is almost half the price of the PS2's
