Run flats are horrible, they are expensive and drive like crap, get normal tires.

Runflats are not for everyone and it's a love-hate situation. I suspect that many of the deficiencies exhibited by the current generation of RFTs will diminish as the major companies work to improve the product and reduce the price. That said, your choice of replacement should be geared to suit your driving style and needs. I suggest you visit www.tirerack.com for research and pricing. When you decide on what tire suits you best it'd be worth a shot at finding local tire shops that know how to install tires on high end cars and that have the proper equipment to remove RFTs without damaging your rims. Stay away from the retail tire stores used to changing tires on run of mill cars - they may not be prepared to remove, install and balance tires carefully or well! Don't let slick salesfolks steer you to the deal of the day ... stick to your research findings ...

Last but not least, if you shop on line (esp tirerack) use the link in my signature to earn free cash rebates. It's not how much you make - it's how you spend it that matters!

Good luck re-tiring your 550

Definitely go with conventional tires. For Miami, you don't need all-seasons, just summer. The major decision for you will be price.

I'm going to have to add one teensie weensie difference of opinion ... please indulge me ...

In the unlikely or remote possibility they may travel into cold climates during the dead of winter and despite global warming the temps do occasionally fall into the 30s - 40s even in Miami ... the unsuspecting driver may be caught unaware and surprised to find that UHP Summer Tires have turned slippery or even dangerous

That said, there are several fine all-season conventional tires that offer performance and quite, comfortable, long tread life + reasonable price ... for example, Conti's have recently gotten good reviews on all counts recently ...

+1. Get regular tires. Especially since your car has a spare.

I made the switch, 2 years ago. Best investment ever. Run flats are in attic waiting to go back on the car when I trade/sell it. Enjoy the car so much more with quality normal tires, Michelin Pilot Sports for me.

I can't explain in words how much better the car handles, rides etc with regular tires vs run flats. You will think BMW has lost its mind equiping their cars with run flats.

Does anyone know if Costco knows how to replace the tires on these E60 535i? I still have the original run flats on mine, and am thinking about replacing them with normal all season michelins when the time comes to replace.

So here's my question:

Does the TPMS sensor need to be reset? When the tire shop remove the old tire from the rim, will they know how to remove the TPMS sensors safely and then to put them onto the new tires correctly?

I'm thinking of Costco for the replacement, i've used them with my 1998 E320 and 2009 RS350, and both times the tires were replaced without any issues.

Anyone has experience with Costco for their E60 tire replacement?
