Hi All,

I have just recently upgrade from an E39 to my 05 E60 535d. Im absolutely delighted with it except for one small thing. When I am driving along I can hear a faint rumbling sound coming from the front left wheel area of the car. It sounds very like a bearing on the way out (I had a similar sound that turn out to be a bearing on a car many years ago!).

I have had a BMW expert friend take a drive and he says he cant hear the sound (I didn't at first either, but after a while of driving you begin to hear it very clearly!)....he has suggested that its the road noise from the run flat tires? Interestingly, the front left one has the least amount of tread (3mm) left, so maybe thats why only this side is noisey?

I still think it sounds like a bearing tho!!!

Anyone got any suggestions or have a similar experience that could shed some light on this for me?

Thanks,
Jab

It can definitely be the runflats, especially if they have 3mm left. Change tires and you will experience tremendous difference

Hi,

Thanks for that. I think I will have to go ahead and get rid of the run flats so!

I see from your profile that you have an "Advanced Remote", what is this?

Thanks,
Jab

It consists of three buttons on the left bottom of the rear view mirror, which can be programmed to different frequencies used eg. opening gate/garage door, turning lights on etc. Not a very common feature and quite costly too, it costs 500 EUR to order. What a shame all gates I get to use are made for magnetic cards

Could it be a political leaning perhaps?? An Obama supporter??

A rumble in my front right turned out to be a rotor needing replacement. It will get progressively worse and more noticeable at higher speeds if it is a rotor.

Happened at 45k, very early for a rotor to go bad, but hopefully an anomoly.
