I finally bit the bullet and decided to get a RPI scoop.

However, do I have a different intake than normal? With out some major bending I cannot make it fit.

The worst part is that it rubs right against the support. The is with the flat, main, portion of the body as flush (flush at the top but 5mm opening at the bottom) against the intake. The support prevents the scoop from mounting flush.

Thankfully, Trinity called me back 18:15 on a Friday night (WOW!) but there wasn't much resolution other than to just bend it. The paint started flaking off when I did that.

If you have the 550i, I'm guessing you do from your name it looks like the scoop isn't rounded like it is in the install instructions

Did you show Joe the pictures you're showing us? Ask him about the round bend.

I don't mean to jack your thread, theres another opening on the exact opposite side but its covered off, is it safe to unclip that cover off and leave that open?

That would minimize the flow going to the airbox because it has another exit. I would leave it as is.

That's part of the problem... It seemed un-holy and wrong to have to adjust it as much as I did. The bottom support might as well have been straight with the amount of bending I had to do.

I did not - I only spoke with NeRwEEzy (at 18:15 on a Friday!! Amazing!) and followed his suggestion to just bend it. I really, really, had to bend it though.
All is well now - I got over my fear of bending the support to make it fit. I'm used to Mercedes and Bosch parts that fit perfectly all the time. Made me spoiled.

All is well now:

The only thing that makes me really nervous are the length of the self tapping screws... a size smaller would be better so that the ends don't protrude soooooooooo close to the radiator:
