Thumbs up

Hi everyone, I've done about 5 searches for this subject, and can't find it anywhere .
I'm wanting to dye the outer rim of the wheel roundels black, I've had my 172's finished in black for the summer and I need the grey part of the rim finished in black. I remember reading about dying this, (the outer part) in a topic last year but can't for the life of me remember how the guy did it!!

It's very easy to do. I believe they come apart in three different pieces. Disassemble it, lightly sand it (wet or dry) and spray paint to your liking. That is how I did mine, first red. Then I thought it didn't quite match so I re-did it in black. GL

I know it's too late since the OP already purchased roundels...

but I think the OP is referring to the thread by DRANGED:

"As many of you know I had my M166's powder coated an anthracite color. This left me with a center cap problem. Unfortunately the light gray plastic/nylon of the center caps now sticks out like a sore thumb next to the darker color of my wheels.

I remembered an old trick we used to dye white nylon parts black when I raced RC cars as a kid. Rit clothing dye!!

I purchased some black RIT liquid clothing dye at Walmart. Took apart each of my center caps, placed the metal roundels off to the side, then placed the two nylon plastic parts from each center cap into a small pot of boiling water with a half of bottle of RIT dye. Left the parts in the boiling dye concoction for a couple of minutes. Removed plastic parts, rinsed them in cold water and TAH DAH!!! I now have black plastic parts for my center caps will almost match my anthracite wheels. Here are a couple craptacular pics of the finished product. I'll be putting them on the car tomorrow.

Ps. Don't let the wife catch you doing this with her Le Creuset cookware or she will freak the f*ck out!"
