My car has recently developed a roughness in the up-down steering adjustment,
there are clicks and vibrations and a slight grating sound. It used to be completely
smooth before. The dealership has replaced the steering column and bushings
and been unable to fix the problem. They are now saying that this is normal for
the e60. I don't buy this, since the problem definitely did not exist before.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem and whether there is any
possible fix?

Is it electric or manual?

Yup - that's what happens. It's when the steering auto-adjusts when you turn off the car that
I hear the clicks. If you keep your hand on the steering, you'll feel them. Dealer tried everything,
but could not fix it.

Electric, this is the power adjustment of the steering wheel. I don't think they
have manual adjustments in the e60, at least not in the 545i which is what
I have.
