Roof rack - how attached & which is best

I have the roof rack but haven't put it on yet... I do have one question for you though:
After using the rack for a while and you take it off, does the door still seal well (in terms of liquids and noise)? I'm a little concerned that the clamp of the rack will deform the rubber seal of the door.

I was given a bum steer by salesman - who told me you remove a small part of the trim strip.
Looking at an E90 in the showroom I reckon he was thinking E60 was the same.

I have left my racks on for two or three weeks at a time without any long term change to the rubber. I usually take off my racks when I'm done using them, due to wind noise. They are very easy to put on and take off, couple of minutes
