BMW Roof Rack Accessories
Try this. Unfortunately our cars don't have the little roof receptacles that the 3 and 7 series has, but the rack itself locks behind the door seal and sits on the plastic strip, so no sheet metal scratches. Others have reported no damage, and I've looked up close at one installed on a 5'r, and indeed there are limited contact points. Stuff appears to be top quality, and you can buy other branded stuff that will bolt to these load bars. I'm sure Thule and Yakima make stuff as well.

You should spring for the few extra dollars and go OEM from Garry@Newport. The fitment is superb and you don't want to be worrying about stuff flying off the top!
I have the system for two road cycles. The instructions, however, were virtually worthless. I ended up at my dealer and they helped me put it on for free. There is no drilling or damage whatsoever.
Cost is approx. $450 as I remember.

although, my 530i has 4 places on the roof that i can remove the covers and install a roof rack
maybe its just the options that comes with the car ?
530i , 2009, europe, gulf specs, fully loaded. even my manual has the "how to" part....

hmm imma pull up my manual and see what i find
edit
yeah i jsut checked my car it doesnt have access on the rails but inside the doors it has a little indentation i guess thats were you mount the rack at.
anyone have any experience with this method using the bmw base support system? i really dont want to risk scuffing my paint if im going to pay over 400 for a rack system

It was a pretty frustrating ordeal getting the thing on, but in the end it is a perfect, typically German, way over-engineered accessory.
Remember that the above video is not for the e60 rack. The rack is almost the same, but there are a number of significant differences, particularly regarding gutters.
