Roll your windows down
The last two days here in Chicago have been perfect days to drive around with all the windows down and the sunroof open. Ahhh, spring.
But here's the key: turn off the radio.
It's been months since I've been able to fully hear the 4.8L engine sing its song. And it makes such wonderful sounds.
I also think the exhaust system has matured as the miles accumulate - it sounds a bit deeper now and has a bit more growl.
Maybe removing the charcoal filter helps too.
I love driving this car.

Especially when you keep it in 2nd past 4000 rpm and then give it 3/4 throttle all the way to redline ... talk about pushing you into the seat! The roar is unbelievable and the torque is TREMENDOUS!

Dido. Us Chicagoland people really appreciate good weather!!!! Sometimes I forget that the old V8 is down below. No substitute for that nice rumble and always a pleasant reminder that you spec'd the right motor.

No kidding. I enjoy driving without the radio and just listening to the motor. It also sounds sweet in the morning in the garage with the windows down on warm up. This morning I got in the car and the windows were down (opps, one of those key fob in the pocket while in the house screw ups). Anyway, cranked the motor and the sound was so sweet.
too bad us with 3.0L 525 can not enjoy that melody as loud as those 545s,550 or..the one I heard today? Was it vivaldi? choppin, bethoven? Man, i dont know who was it and please dont ask such a difficult question.. I now it was light green, with two tail pipes and a big SIGN M5. Boy what a melody. When that driver let go that 1st to 2nd with furious (maybe to show me how much power she has) my heart pounded like love for the first time.

I just said to a friend Wednesday that they should have an option that mikes the exhaust and engine sound, and plays it over the car speakers. I wouldn't need a radio.
I want to put a mike back near my exhaust and record it onto a computer or something. I've never heard my own exhaust, and I'm curious how it sounds under hard acceleration.
I've been doing the same thing the last few weeks: windows down, radio and AC off, and push the revs up a bit. Ahhhhhhhhhhh.
