I am taking my little pup and I on a road trip half way across the states and was wondering if I am missing anything other than the standard road trip prep.
So any advice I should heed to specific to the e60 type? (I have a 10' 535xi)
Also aside from camping has anyone try sleeping in the car using the rear fold down seats? Last night I folded them down and laid in it and turned out to be the perfect length

A quart of motor oil. Battery jumper cables. Bucket and supplies for hand washing car. Fire extinguisher for safety.
Avoid spending the night at a rest stop with your type of vehicle. Safer to use a motel.

I'd be more worried about the pup than the car.
Bring food and water for the little critter and plan on making stops at regular intervals.

I drove from NYC or San Francisco and took the scenic route. You'll definitely have a hell of a time. As DK mentioned tho I would throw on some sort of protection for your front end tho. And if you don't have a radar detector GET ONE!
enjoy it man.![](https://5series.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

I've driven ~2,000 miles after grad school from Indiana to California in 2 days. I hope your dog will be ok in the car for such a long trip like that.
I'd plan a route and reserve hotels or /motels online. Probably cheaper that way. Would definitely refrain from sleeping in the car. Desert areas have a significant temperature drop at night.
Agreed with Devildawg - Radar detector saved me twice on that trip. Watch out for change in speed limits.
Your front bumper will not be pretty and I would advise taking a bottle windex and some wipes. Some of these bugs are massive as your windshield/front bumper/side mirrors will encounter.

Every few days, go to a car wash stall and pressure wash the front end to get the bugs off. Also, a portable tire inflator can come in real handy if you end up with a small puncture and a slow leak.
