So I hit a nasty pothole just right - blew both tires - Continental sport contacts. So - no surprise - the rims are also bent. They hold air and balance okay - but there is some definite shake at higher speeds.
I have the Beacon Rim/Tire road hazard insurance that was purchased when I leased the car. The coverage says that it won't work for tires "not recommended" by the manufacturer. One SA was positive that the claim would be denied (for both rims and tires) since I didn't have Run Flats on the car. Now - I go through Beacon - and not BMW so what this SA says doesn't necessarily have any merit.
Are non run flat tires "not recommended" for 5 series sport cars?
Would Beacon know - especially given that non sport 5 series used traditional tires?
Of course - the rim would probably have bent more/easier if I had run flats on but you can't expect an insurance company to understand that logic.....
I don't have that much time left on my lease (9 months) - and I would definitly consider less than perfect options if it wasn't my own dime. I hate to call Beacon and give them all the facts for obvious reason. I'll definitely keep you all updated since this would have factored into my decision about getting non RFTs and also about getting the $400 for 3 years insurance plan.

I would be surprised if they asked about the tyres being RFT's
If you tell them they are Conti SC2 and the size is correct, perhaps also that this is the make and size of tyre fitted as standard, that might well be enough.
Nowhere in the handbook or on the door pillar sticker does it differentiate between RFT's and non RFT's.
the 16 and 19 inch wheels did (and still might) come with non RFT's as standard.
Good luck

I would contact the town where the incident happened. They are responsible to keep roads safe for vehicle traffic.

Not to be a buzz kill, but I wouldnt waste the time contacting the municipality. I'd focus the efforts on your insurance co.
I cannot imagine them denying the claim because you didnt have run flats. It would be an outrage if they did.
