My Ride: 2005 Alpine White 530i
Default

So... I just picked up an 05 530i... Loving it. I have the sport package w/ the half decent 18's. I was looking at replacing them with some nice rims come summer, but unfortunately that decision will have to come now. I've been having excessive road noise in the car and then had a tire pressure issue with one tire. Took it into the dealer today to have it checked out and I have a slow tiny leak in one tire, and ALL tires have only 2-3mm of tread left and need replacement (thus the louder road noise). My question is this - Should I get 19's or 20's? Road conditions vary here but for the most part are fine. I'm looking at also putting on an ACS roof/trunk spoiler, and the full m-tech kit w/ hamman front splitter in the next 30-60 days (YES I have the mod bug). I'm really unsure on how much of an aesthetic difference there is between those two sizes in terms of size and appearance on such a big vehicle, and if running a 20 has much of a difference over a 19 in road noise and comfort. I am in my car HOURS per day as a medical sales rep and would hate to have REALLY loud road noise to the point of discomfort all to look good, yet I'm nervous that a 19 wouldn't look big enough (even though I know many members do that size). Any help would be appreicated - 19 or 20? Why on your choice or your decision you made with yours? I need to order rims/tires pronto as they patched the run flat that had a puncture and it won't last long!

with the amount of time you spend in the car, get the 19s. 20s with our tire size are for looks, not comfort. If it was a 7 series I'd say hit the 20s.

If you're getting wheels with a big lip - bigger looks better IMO.

size matters!

i have 20's and have no complaints about severe change in ride & comfort quality vs. the OEM. you certainly have to be more aware of potholes with less rubber, especially if you decide on a 3pc wheel.

=======================

Hey 'adam81osu',

I first had the stock BMW OEM 17, then I tried the BMW OEM 18s, and today I have the BMW OEM M5 166 19 inch staggered. I liked the ride the best with the 18s, but I did not get the aggressive look I was after so I went with the BMW OEM M5 19 166's. (The 20's do look fine, but as you probably already know the higher you go up in size the less sidewall protection you will have).

Good luck in your decision making, and I hope this helps some.
