Default Right parking light malfunction message

About a week ago, I got the symbol and message for "Right parking light malfunction." So I thought to myself, "damm, something else I have to deal with when the holidays are over." I didn't have time to address it, so I let it go.

Yesterday, I stopped getting the message. I had assumed that the bulb must have burned out, but now it's back on. What do you think is happening here? Loose wire perhaps?

I've become used to intermittent electrical funkiness with my bimmers. Periodically, my sunroof won't close in the vent position unless I'm moving, and I've had issues with the driver's window not closing from time to time on my E39, but it always cleared up.

Anybody else experience these quirks?

I had the exact same issue last week, with the left front parking light. Angel Eyes were out on driver side. A day later, error message is gone and angel eyes working again.

Not sure what the problem is, either?

I also get Dynamic Drive warnings sometimes, but they also go away after turning car off and on again.

Experienced the same issue.. Intermittent drivers parking lamp malfunction for a few weeks, until the error finally stuck.. turns out the socket/clip to parking lamp was partially melted (overload on ground).. see my profile pics.. replaced for under $20

Ron, can you tell me exactly where the pics you referenced in your post above are located? (or perhaps attach them to your reply?) The error message I experienced is now permanent and I need to get this fixed. Thanks!

If these errors are for the rear parking lights, and not really a bulb problem, then it is likely in the harness. The rear wire harness has a connection falt that causes the spade plug terminals to arc which in turn causes them to look corroded and become smaller which then causes the intermittant connection.

Simply remove the rear side covers in the trunk as if you were to change the bulb or get to the battery. You will see the lamp assembly which simply snaps away from the whole light - it is a plastic carrier tray that holds all the bulbs. This carrier tray has a plug connected to it for the wire harness to the car. Remove that plug and inspect the electrical terminals.

It's just a pic of the burnt out clip, noquarter gives a great summation of the problem below. Replacing the clip is fairly basic, cheap part.. not really addressing the fault but I figure it took 4 years

Oh, I thought you said your problem was with the FRONT parking lamp. My issue is with the front. I didn't realize we had a REAR parking lamp.
