RFT
Guys - probably covered off else where, but, where are these blasted sensors?
I am assuming that they are in the ABS/Hub area and sense when the wheel is locking under brakes (then senses and engages ABS/DSC) or "dragging" (and senses this for Puncture monitor/alarm)??
I am seriously thinking about ditching my RFT's, but my local and very trusted Tyre place has advised me that I am more likely to get RFT sensor issues. Is this true, or are they not as good as I believe them to be LOL. They also stated that it could affect my insurance, as the grouping is based on a standard non modified car (i.e. with RFT's and the benefits it brings from a safety perspective)??
I'm in the UK if that makes a difference, the car has the standard 18" M Sport rims...and I think if they are in the Hub's, then it should not make any difference...

As for the insurance, I have heard that before but someone from the UK will have to chime in as I have no clue...

What year is the car? Early E60's used a sensor in the braking system to measure rotation, with a change in rotation indicating a flat. Newer E60'd now have an actual sensor on the valve stem, inside the rim. They can be moved to any new rim or tire without issue. Look in your iDrive, does it call the system FTM or TPM. FTM is the Flat Tire Monitor, the old brake related system. TPM is the newer system.

hmmm where are you located? Perhaps RFTs and TPMS were not factory standard equipment for some models in certain countries?

This has come up before as I recall. In the UK (and elsewhere), they still use the FTM system (although I'm not sure it's called that), even on LCIs. So, for the OP, the sensors are in the hubs.
Correct - UK and Diesel. Not had a look for TPM or FTM, but I see fro this that as long as the sensors stay (FTM valves stems), I should be OK to use Non RFT's without the sensors going off for no reason?
