It was my understanding that the dipping of the passenger mirror was to assist in parallel parking. It dips like that so you can see how close your rear passenger side tire is to the curb so that you?re not scuffing it and the wheel up.

Isn't the rearview mirror the main tool for that?

But being able to see the back using the wing mirrors is different from the rearview mirror. It's actually easier to judge with the wing mirrors, unless of course you have the sensors. But even with the sensors (not PDC though), I still make full use of the wing mirrors.

Has anyone else noticed that it's sort of strange that the button needs to be on the Driver's side for the Passenger's mirror to dip?
(In my Audi, it was the other way around).

Makes perfect sense to me. If you have it to the right (on the passenger side mirror) you are in a manual control mode, for the auto function (the auto tilt in reverse) you can't have it in manual control mode.

can one adjust HOW deep the mirror dips? its nearly angeled at the ground - not too useful when backing up, as you can't see a damned thing behind you. rather unsafe, as you can ONLY see the ground.

out of many cars with dipping mirrors, this one dips the lowest.

I agree that you should be able to program where the mirror ends up after dipping. M-B lets you do it (at least on the S-class). On the M-B, you can program the exact position of the mirror too. For example, you can program it to dip down and then out if you want...

Ummm. Whatever. I still think that the button selected to the passengers side makes more sense. Although... look at my avatar.

Iceman explanation makes logical sense. But it can argued that the button has a secondary function as the indicator whether an user wants it to dip when in reverse. Then it needs to be on the passenger side. But then one can also argue the absence of it will be the indication (negative logic sense). You get what I mean.

Well, it is just interpretation. There is no right or wrong. Just have to get used to it.

I know what you mean. They make customer surveys to find stuff like that out, and when thery come to the conclusion, that this is more intuitive, then they do it this way. There is allways another side...
