Today I was reunited with my 550 Sport after dropping it off with Harms in Munich on August 8. It arrived at the dealership 5 weeks and 1 day later on Thursday September 13. That has to be ED record to Chicago. The car is absolutely awesome. Unfortunately I have to leave early tomorrow morning for a business trip to LA. I will post photos when I return.

I posted my initial driving impressions when I was in Europe in early August. My initial driving impressions in Chicago were: US roads are very inferior to Germany in just about every way possible. When I turned on the Nav System with real time traffic data, all of the Chicago expressways and arterial roads were indicated as being clogged up with traffic or under construction. The Nav map was absolutely loaded with symbols indicating traffic problems.

I can hardly wait to get back and take the 550 out again.

14 days... just what I said... ok not "exact" but pretty much spot on. At first i said 2-3 weeks and then after JSpira basically said I was an idiot for saying that ED cars take longer than ordered cars to get through VDC I said

I don't understand your post, however I can share this. My car was in VPC including customs for 7 business days. I don't see how a conventionally ordered car would have been any quicker.

You can take it any way you wish but not that way  . POVs have higher priority to get on a vessel and then go thru as fast if not faster thru the VDC once they reach the VDC.

So no, just to make it clear, POVs do not take longer than "ordered cars" to get through the VDC. In fact, the VDC knows which cars are POVs and is aware of the rush to reunite the car with its owner, unlike cars which haven?t been delivered yet. Or do you presume my friend, formerly the manager of the Port NEAT VDC, who now is in charge of strategic planning for BMW?s VDCs, doesn?t know what he?s talking about.
