Its probably been asked before but does anyone know yet whether its possible to retrofit the new rear lights onto the E60 with the new facelifted version due in March. They look great with the LED flashers etc (they should have been there since the E60 was launched in 2003! ).

I assume its not as easy as buying the two rear light clusters and plugging them in. They will probably need programming with the cpu on the E60 to work properly I assume.

Any feedback on this would be great.

I don't know for sure but I wouldn't rule out a plug and play just yet. It's quite possible that all the electronic changes are integrated into the actual light assembly so maybe it'll be an easy swap?

I don't know the current pricing but I imagine the newer lamps will be a bit more due to the LED electronics that are likely a part of the assembly...

doesn't LED uses different voltage consumption..... therefore definitely some coding or an extra tiny "convertor box" is need as opposed to our current lights.... otherwise the computer would get mad because of different voltage in the circuit.... so at least "bulb warning" would come up..... or maybe just an plug n play as well.....
who knows..... so who is up to try guys....

I think so as well. a friend of mine with a E46 coupe changed his tail lights with the LED version and they worked perferctly. It seems the electronic changes were intergrated into the assembly. BMW made additional money this way and I would be surprised to see them move away from this policy.

fingers crossed.
