Turn off the engine, after the engine temperature is at normal operating temperature, while outside the temperature is lower than 16 degrees celsius, and it will work ok.

If temperature is never below 16 degrees Celsius, why would you want to heat up the car using residual engine heat, which by the way is what Rest button does?

You'll want to use the independent ventilation option (iDrive ->Climate menu) instead.

Search for it on here or consult your manual for instructions.

I read somewhere that if its hot outside you can press a button and the car will cool itlsef down when left alone. Is this true?

Do anyone read the E60 manual?

If not - read it!

I am planning the read the manual for ventilation option in iDrive menu right before the summer.
The temp is too perfect in S. California this time of the year. Too lazy to read it now.
