My Ride: 2004 545i 6speed
Curious if anyone has any idea whether the new 5 is doing well with regards to depreciation.
When first released, BMW projected rather lofty residual value at 3 years, and I was wondering if their projections are trending accurately.

I looked up my car configuration on the Kelley Blue Book site. I used 10K for the miledge (my actual mi. is 8600) and pristine condition (of course) and came up with this:
Trade in $48,200
Private Sale $51,865
Retail $55,065
I paid $60K new, my guess is that the quoted residuals are high. But since I leased it that's a good thing.

I just saw one on ebay w/the following description:
2004 525i 6 SPEED, Titanium Grey 17" SPSports, 9600mi
With a "Buy it now option" of 38.5K that could probably go down to 37K... The pictures look pretty good.

Cars do not depreciate equally over the first three years. My assumption is that depreciation on a percent basis is the most significant over year one.

P harding is correct. I posted a thread a few months ago that Money magazine stated that the new 5er had the lowest depreciation in its class for 2004 for one year.
