Resetting EML

Think i have a MAF problem but not 100% certain.
Quick story car start's fine and as soon as it starts it hunts on idle engine shakes for 5-10 secs then stops does the same when driving its like a surge of power, spoke to a few friends who said possible MAF to disconnect it drive for 20 mins see how it is then plug back in, literally two mins and the EML comes on so stopped the engine, replugged the MAF back in start up and the EML is still on.
How do i reset the EML?? have been told unplug the battery for a few hours, or is it a trip to the garage for a scan of codes reset and see if it really is the MAF.
