Hello,
Here are some statistics about my new ride:Total average speed 47 km/h / 2500 kms, fuel consumption 9,1 l/100 km - mostly city traffic and short trips. Today 720 kms on road traffic, heavy traffic, average speed 101 km/h, fuel consumption 7,6 l/100 km. The car has 18 inch RF tyres, F 245/ R 275 - I think they are not the best ones for fuel economy.
So far I am 100% happy with the car. Somehow it feels much better than pre FL E60. No faults, the new autotranny is super. Noice level is much lower than in my previous 530iA/04. Idrive is much better, not only due to memory buttons but also due to better functionality and operational logics. USB connection works fine both with USB stick and IPod.
Regards

Grats, consider yourself lucky. Many German owners incl. me don't see this. I bought a 523i to follow my 525i. I test rode a 523i from my dealer and the consumption was fabulously low. Unfortunately my new one consumes more than my old 525i. I even switched the tires from 245 to 225 size.
My old one would go with 9,5l in the town (rural little one) and about 8 Liters on highways with speed restriction 130kmh such as Austria. The new one is about the same BUT whenever you enjoy the power of the car and hit the accelerator the consumption explodes which has not been with the old engine.
Another downside on mine is the Diesel like engine sound in idle.
Greetings from Germany
Bernd

Hello to you both. I've had my 530ia for almost 1 month now and I am still in the learning mode after coming from an E39 530ia. The engine is very different- it has a definite roughness at idle- I put this down to the direct injection and the low tickover- around 600 rpm (apparently to save fuel). However once on the road, everything comes together and you can feel the traditional inline 6 turbinelike sound. My average consumption so far is 9.7l/100km.

I agree with you regarding the idling sound. It has a special metallic sound, which my dealer told is caused by the new high pressure pump creating 2000 bar pressure for the fuel injectors. It can not be heard inside the car though.
I have not been really pushing the car yet due to low kilometers, so I don?t know how easily the consumption will increase.
