Hi, I have the new cover and everything is almost ready for the switch except for this piece of hardware that is in the way. It is a silver color and it is attached to the driving side of the wiper motor shaft.I though of just cutting the old cover, but this would not work when I need to put the new one in of course.

I found out that the metal part that needs to be removed is called the dial. Here are the instructions for it

It required a special tool to remove it. I ended up buying a set of 3 2-arms pulley pullers from Harbor Freight. Used the smallest one. Put a towel or something below to plug any holes in which this part can fall in. Mine did after it popped. After this everything when great.

While reinstalling the wiper arm and 'dialer', did you use 'feeler gauge' to get the right contact angle?

Before removing the dial, I marked the alignment of it with the wiper motor shaft. Everything seemed to line up nicely once it was put back together. Did I miss a step?

Marking the alignment on the shaft [prior to removal] takes care of the alignment.

The link you posted says to use a dialer to get the alignment/angle right. Marking on the shaft and aligning to that mark should get you very close to how it was before removal.

I was thinking of replacing that plastic trim piece. Due to age/sun, that plastic trim has faded on my car. Where did you buy that trim piece? I was going to order at BMW dealer, unless you have an alternative place...

Sorry, my mistake. When I first read the "Wiper arm removal" technical notes, I understood the part was named the dial, not the tool. Thank you for noticing this.

Hello,PatrickB. Thank you for your pic and explanation. I haven't done that, I mean to remove the dial block from the shaft. I know it's a little tricky and difficult. And before that, I want to know, is it difficult to put on back the dial block, or as difficult as to remove it off?

Putting it back is very easy if you previously marked the initial position. There is a set of grooves or teeth under the dial. It can be positioned and adjusted easily. Once you put back everything with the nut, everything will hold in place.

PatrickB, did you put any sealant where the the windshield mates/touches that plastic cowl?
