Gruppo,
Well after listening to the increasing roar and rumble for over the last 800-900 miles my '05 545i with 7500 miles is going in for new sneakers tomorrow. I have the Dunlops-OEM-that came with the car-18's-on the sport package rims. My SA and I looked at the tires, very easy to see the wear pattern on the fronts is different. So I am looking forward to some quiet driving. My question now is anyone have the NEW Dunlop run-flats? Are the truly improved? I am wondering how to tell if the tires are the NEW version? Any tips would be appreciated. Many thanks all. Vinman

I have 2,600 miles on my 550 (build 06/06) Dunlops and they’ve been surprisingly good. Much softer than and not as sticky as Bridgestones I had on my 545 but very quiet.

I havent noticed any difference in each set of Dunlop Run Flats. I'm on my third set, thanks BMW.
I seem to remember a mention that there was a subtle tread pattern change, that was effective on my second set. Nonetheless after about 12K miles they became obnoxiously noisy, but not as bad as the first set that were changed out at 8500K miles.
I have about 2K miles on my latest set, and they are quiet, and drive great.
Candidly, I expect this set to get noisy, and will be contacting My SA when they do. BTW, he made sure to let me know that as long as below SIB exists, and symptoms re-appear, I'll get new free runflats for as long as I own the car. Sounds good to me.

All three sets of Dunlop runflats I've used have become noisy. I don't think they changed the tires at all, they probably just decided to eat the cost of replacements until the stock has run out.
Set number four, here I come...

Last set of 17" Dunlop is far more quiet then the first two sets. But the bridgestones i have on the rear seems even better.
Regarding to Dunlop there is an inscription on the side wall that indicates the fabrication date and version.

My second set of Dunlop RFTs were equally as bad as the first (noise arrives at ~7000 miles). I'm on set number three and if they weren't free there is no way I'd keep driving on them.

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
I am at about 1500+ miles on my new Dunlops and they are much better, so far.
But here's something to think about: My dealer SA said "they" required an aligment ($150) during replacement. I agreed, since I had clipped a curb with my right front, which was also the most obviously worn tire (but not enough miles since recent clipping to cause that wear) and we have bad potholes here in NY.
When I picked the car up, I asked about the alignment findings. He checked and reported that both left wheels were out just a fraction! Connect those dots...
In sum at 14k+ when they became so noisy, I figured the alignment was worthwhile. Now we both know that it had nothing to do with the badly worn RF tire. And therefore, depending on your overall mileage, be skeptical about the $150 alignment job, if "requested/required."
Hey, try 'em, they're free!

Ray-thank-you, will not be getting an alignment. Does not appear to be an issue. I appreciate the feed back. I will post on my impressions in a few thousand miles.
