Dear all,

I have read through this forum (and other bimmer owners') regarding the well known tranny jerk right before the car is coming to a full stop.

I am driving a 530 2005 model with 87,000 km on the clock.

A "transmission fault" came out when I was driving to the golf course in June. Not long after another warning (tire punctures) also popped up. I skipped the tee time and brought the car to the AGMC (dealer in Dubai). They kept the car for one week, adjusted SAS sensor and reprogramming the control unit. They confirmed to me that there is nothing wrong with the tranny itself.

Since the repair I started to feel the lurch before the car comes to a full stop. I am not sure that I had that before the repair. Meantime, when I use steptronic and downshift from 2 to 1, the can will "jerk", as if I was driving a manual gear box.

So I brouhgt the car in and this time more than one week. The dealer open a PUMA case and have communicated with BMW back and forth. They recommend a replacement for the tranny and based on good wills, they would give me 50% discount for the tranny itself.

My question is,is this worthy? Will the replacement really kill the root cause? Or the problem would come back after another 40~50 k/ (I have seen owner encounter the same when the tranny is still very young(?

Any advise please? I have to get back to the SA by tomorrow.

I'd say it would solve the problem. Trannys can be odd. Some will last 200,000 miles + and others die at 20K. So just because one failed for you doesn't mean the next will fail around the same mileage.

Being an 05 shouldn't it still be under warranty or did it just run out. If it just ran out like a month ago I'd push BMW to cover all the cost. Unless the warranty is different in the Middle East.

Yeap, it is different. In Dubai the dealer offers 2 year, unlimitedmilage warranty. My 05 530 is well over the warranty period.
Did you BMW has the similar tranny problem? How did you fix it?

Ok, I'll be the one to mention it......Try this first. It's the old "hold down accelerator trick." It might work wonders for your issues. And don't forget to report back if it solves your problem.

Yes I did. I met the SA today and took the car for another test drvie with him. He told me he has seen a lot of 7 with the "slam + lurch" problem but not many E60.

He told me the software has been updated but the lurch is still there before the car alomst comes to a full stop. Then we stopped the car, and I performed the "hold down accelerator trick" in fornt og my SA. He said he's never heard about anything like this.

Well, the lurch is still there, maybe it's improved but I still can feel it. Other than this, the car and tranny runs and works well. Acceleration has never been a problem.

As I mentioned, the dealer checked the tranny 2 months ago and confirmed nothing wrong with the tranny itself. Now they said the tranny has to be replaced......

Should I invest 5,000 USD for a new tranny?
